Could Luka Modric be reunited with Eduardo at Arsenal?

We’re barely into the second month of the season, but speculation has already begun about who Arsene Wenger might be looking to bring in to Arsenal in the January transfer window.

One player who seems destined to move clubs is Luka Modric of Dinamo Zagreb, the 22-year-old midfielder who was Eduardo’s main provider last season when the striker notched 34 goals in 32 games. To find out more about Modric, have a look at the above interview I found on YouTube.

Modric has been linked with big money moves to both Ajax and Bayern Munich, but if Le Gaffer is interested - and rumour has it that he has made enquiries - then we could see Luka on his way to London in the New Year.

The benefits of reuniting Modric and Eduardo could be fantastic. Despite Eduardo’s massive goal haul last season, Dinamo Zagreb did not stand in his way to move on, but they will put up a bigger fight to try to keep Modric, who they rate as their best player. And Modric himself can put them away, having scored 20 goals in 69 appearances for Zagreb and three in 18 games for the national side.

Thierry Henry finds the 'post' in post-Arsenal career

Thierry Henry’s love affair with the post continues at Barcelona, as he failed once again to find the net in the club’s league game against Sevilla at the weekend, but reacquainted himself with his new best friend, the woodwork.

Titi got his Barca goalscoring career off to a start last week when he netted in the 3-0 win over Lyon, but he is yet to hit his first league goal, despite rattling the posts on a number of occasions.

Henry is also finding himself down the pecking order in terms of adulation, with Lionel Messi the current hero among the demanding Catalan fans. Samuel Eto’o and Ronaldinho are both sidelined at the moment, allowing Henry to ingratiate himself with the Nou Camp crowds, but his tendency to find the goal frame at the moment isn’t helping his case.

But as you’ll see from footage of the weekend’s game against Sevilla, after seeing his shot deflected onto the post, Henry later provided the pinpoint pass as the assist for Messi’s opener.

No doubt he’ll find his scoring touch again soon, so we’ll keep an eye on Thierry as the season progresses. After all, he claims the first result he always checks is the Gunners, so it would be rude not to reciprocate.

Dennis Bergkamp: Arsenal’s big cheese

Here’s one from the YouTube vaults to help brighten up your Monday afternoon.

The Reebok advert depicts my No1 Gunners legend Dennis Bergkamp as he might have been had he chosen a train set as a childhood birthday present, rather than football boots.

And thank goodness for that. Arsenal have moved to a new state of the art stadium and are playing some amazing football, but I for one still miss seeing DB10 wearing red and white.

Anyway, enjoy the footage of Bergkamp’s alternative career. Maybe you should add “acting” to your impressive CV, Dennis, as it’s not a bad performance.

The Wheel Football Factorwheeze

Apologies in advance to those of you who live overseas, but I came across this spoof of Danny Dyer’s Real Football Factories on YouTube and I just had to share it - it’s proppa!

Anyone unfamiliar with Dyer’s work should be aware that he recorded a series of TV programmes that followed some of the infamous gangs who purport to be football fans, but in reality are just thugs who use football as an excuse for violence.

Anyway, be warned, the clip is nearly six minutes long, so you might want to watch it during your lunch break if you’re at work. Oh, and if you’re not an aficionado of Cockney rhyming slang, it may help you to know that the term ‘boat’ refers to one’s face. Boat race = face. Geddit? Sorted.

Video: Eduardo's Zagreb goals

I was going to post up a link to Eduardo’s midweek goal for Croatia against Andorra, but to be honest, it wasn’t one of his most spectacular and you lot deserve better.

So instead, I managed to find this television interview with him from the summer and a selection of some of his goals for Dinamo Zagreb last season.

I count 22 strikes, including five from the penalty spot, a number of fantastic headers and one Paul Robinson style howler by the keeper of a team called Kamen Ingrad. No, I’ve never heard of them either.

For those of you who don’t know, Eduardo netted no fewer than 34 times last season in 32 league matches - a Croatian record - and also had 10 assists. The footage shows just what a battling spirit he has in front of goal and how he rarely misses an opportunity to pounce.

In his last three games, he’s notched four goals - three for Croatia plus one for the Gunners against Sparta Prague - and in that kind of form, it must be tempting for Arsene Wenger to throw him into tomorrow’s North London derby. That would be a huge game for Eduardo, but given some of the fiercely fought games he played in Croatia - including becoming the only player to ever score a hat-trick against bitter derby rivals Hajduk Split - he has shown he is a player who loves the big occasions.

Oh, and keep your eyes peeled for his bicycle shorts message celebration - a first for me.

Best indoor goal ever?

The footage for this extraordinary goal was posted to me a few months ago by a friend. But I’m not going to make any apologies because we’re in the midst of an international week and to perfectly honest, there’s bugger all else to tell you about.

I think the striker is called Calderol - or at least that’s what other people onYouTube, MySpace, etc, lead me to believe. Whoever he is though, he must love it that the best goal he will ever score has been captured on camera.

So sit back and enjoy the best indoor goal ever... unless, as Esther Rantzen used to say, you know better.
