Will Hleb's swipe at fellow Gunners finally see him sold?

It's a pretty quiet news day when it comes to Arsenal with the good news being that Carlos Vela will join his team mates in pre-season training next week, while the bad news centres on our Belarussian midfielder who is reaching desperation in his bid to find a new club.

Arsene Wenger has always held the belief that you don't want unhappy players in your squad, so it seems as if Alexander Hleb and his agent have been doing their homework to come up with what the newspapers are calling "an astonishing attack" on Wenger and Cesc Fabregas.

For us Gooners, the attack on Cesc is laughable. Hleb apparently blames Fab 4 for being one of the key reasons why he has not fulfilled his potential at the club. Why? Well, Hleb reportedly said, "With scoring opportunities [Fabregas] is even more selfish than I am. Given the chance to shoot he always goes for it, unlike me."

Um, that's why us fans have spent much of the past three years yelling "Shoot!" at you Alex. You may be a good player but your lack of confidence in front of goal is appalling. Cesc scored 13 goals last season and was the fans' player of the year, while you managed a measly four goals. And when it comes to assists, selfish Cesc had 24 in the season, compared to your 8. Need I say more?

And then there's Hleb's reported verbal assault on Wenger...

Now I know that it's quiet and the newspapers are trying to stir things up to create a headline or two, but if what Hleb said about Le Gaffer is true, then I hope his move to Barcelona, or anywhere else for that matter, is completed soon.

Hleb apparently told journalists that he has wanted to leave Arsenal since last season because he disagrees with where his manager wants him to play.

"My view of how I should be playing didn't coincide with the manager's," Hleb said. "I raised the subject of leaving with Wenger twice before the end of the season. I think he was quite upset about it. But ask him. It may turn out he's happy to see me go."

Unfortunately Hleb doesn't elaborate on how he thinks he should be playing. Perhaps in a midfield without selfish Fabregas? Or maybe he just wants to sit on the bench and collect his massive wages. That would be good preparation for his career in Barcelona.

I truly hope that Hleb has been misquoted, but I fear his desperation to find a team who will pay him ridiculous money for just turning up has prompted him to cause a rift with the club that has helped put him on the world stage.

He'd do well to listen to Thierry Henry, who patently misses Arsenal. Us Gooners are a rarity in modern football because we are patient. I wonder how he'd handle playing in front of Barcelona's infamously impatient fans, when 100,000 people are baying at him to shoot, rather than looking for a pass?

What do you reckon? Has Hleb made his position at Arsenal untenable by his comments? Do you agree with him that Csec Fabregas is too selfish? Share your thoughts here

DISAGREE. Cesc is a fantastic player who has NEVER been selfish. Look at the number of his assists. Look at the way he plays, and how many passes he has made. Compare it with Hleb's. Then you can see that what Hleb's said was WRONG. If he does not think he reaches his highest potential at the club, then it's HIS OWN fault, he can't blame Cesc or Arsene for that, that would be really dumb.

Just remember the Gunners who have gone to Barca in the past - Petit, Overmars, Henry...none of them have exactly been a success, have they?

I dont agree with half this article - he is clearly saying that Cesc's selfishness is a good thing - not a bad! He is associating his success to his willingness to have the ball. His comments on Wenger - Im guessing - have also been taken out of context. I dont think he would attack Wenger all things considering. However - he hasnt been very clever about it thats for sure.

AshleyW2 is completely right, so is Hleb. Cesc is more selfish compared to Hleb; if he gets a chance he will try to score. Hleb on the other hand, always looks to give another pass. Like Ashley said: he is clearly saying that Cesc's selfishness is a good thing.

Wow. So fast to turn on a gunner arent we? Give the lad a chance.

Here is the full interview:
"Cesc and I understand each other very well on the field. It is very, very
pleasurable for me to play with him. He's a very pleasant guy both in
life and as a footballer. He is just more egoistic in goalscoring
opportunities, if he had a chance to score, he always used it, unlike
me."

Why do you guys always report everything the papers report as fact? Hleb has already denied making the statement and I tend to believe him. He is close friends with Cesc and I very much doubt that he would say something like that to the press. Assuming that what the papers print is true is almost as bad as the cunt newspapers themselves.

If those comments as reported in papers are truely from Helb i am sure he would'nt repeat them is asked to besides he already denied them, why? Fab acn not be anti himself, a fantastic player!

reports unless validated are just reports...but if true..hleb is really desperado...he has the skills of Pires and the touch of Bergkamp...but never the shooting boots of either of them..and Wenger will always be wenger...listen to him n respect each other..

Alex is a great player and has made it very clear that he loves playing for Arsenal. he is not degrading Fab but simply saying he is more of a shooter than Hleb, which is true. he is a great creator and helped set up many goals for us this year, and i agree with him that he was not used to his full potential. he would benefit a lot from playing behind Ade and RVP for a whole year, i personally hope he stays

can arsene wenger take hatem ben arfa to arsenal? and if can , i want arsene take yaya toure to make the midfielder strongest...if adebayor out to ac milan, i suggest arsene saves the money because eduardo and van persie is enough fot striker...
