£30 million for Adebayor: would you take it or leave it?

According to newspaper reports, Barcelona are set to table a "take it or leave it" £30 million bid for Gunners' striker Emmanuel Adebayor in a desperate attempt to take the 24-year-old to the Nou Camp.

Take it. Bite their hand off, is what I say. £30 million for a player who has shown time and time again this summer that loyalty is an alien concept? Arsene Wenger would be mad not to, in my opinion.

If the rumour is true - and let's face it, it's a pretty big if - then there could be a very sound reason why Arsenal are playing hardball on the deal. Barcelona club president Joan Laporta faces a vote of no confidence this Sunday and is anxious to pull something spectacular out of the bag to appease the club's massive membership.

Intense speculation linking Man United's Ronaldo with Barca's arch rivals Real Madrid, has left the Catalan club's fans baying for blood after a disappointing season, but Laporta sees Adebayor as the magic ingredient to kick start his team and he could be prepared to break the bank to do it...

Sports hacks have been reporting that Barca's vice president Marc Ingla visited London early this week, but was sent packing when his £24 million bid for Adebayor was rejected by the Arsenal board.

Meanwhile, Le Gaffer has supposedly slapped a preposterous £35 million price tag on his top striker, according to AC Milan, who have pulled out of the race for the Togolese hitman.

News on Barca's other Arsenal target Alexander Hleb has gone quiet over the past few days, but if Wenger could land £30 million for Adebayor and perhaps use Helb to negotiate a swap deal for the likes of Yaya Toure or Samuel Eto'o (or both), then I don't reckon there would be too many of us Gooners crying into our cornflakes. In our poll earlier this week asking whether Le Boss should fight to keep Adebayor, three quarters of you said no, showing just what animosity last season's hero has built up among us fans in the past few weeks.

So I fear I already know the tone that today's debate will take, but I'll pose the question anyway: Would you take or leave £30 million for Emmanuel Adebayor? And if you'd accept the bid, what would you do with such a large pot of cash? Share your thoughts here.

I would Deff take the money and run....Could get yaya toure for 14/15 (That is what barca value him at) and buy an additional CB to either cover or replace Gallas, i know a lot of people will want to see the money spent on a striker but i think we are still well equipped with RVP, Eduardo, Bendtner, Walcott and Vela....lets face it how unlucky would we have to be for RVP and Eduardo to be out most of the season again!

The Guy is truly shite! WTF? He should be sold yesterday! 30 goals my foot - from 90 sitters? Give me a break with this guy and ship him off to Spain or St Helena!

30 million-nah.25 plus henry back?now youre talking. It is painful to watch the footballing great who graced our pitch and the premiership for so many years become a laughing stock playing for a club who don't seem to understand what made him without doubt the greatest player ever to wear the shirt. He wants to come;Ade wants to go.Give them both what they want and we get 25 mil on top.

Take the money! Adebayor is not the fame, Arsenal is. The club makes even an average player looks so good many big clubs start flying about to buy. Afterall who wanted to buy Ade when Monaco released him? Only Arsenal. The team works for players and make them excel. I think whoever comes as a striker after him will hit it big. Only that Wenger should take Yayah and Eto' plus 20mil, and give Ade and Helb. Then we shall wait for the stampede of trophies next season.

i would pay barca 30mill to take that overrated, bigheaded, money grabbing, needs 5 chances to score a goal striker off our hands. he's an absolute donkey, he barely understands the offside rule and his first touch resembles that of bamby on ice, get shot of adebay-ee-or, donkey

Quiet guys, I wouldn't shout else Barca change their mind. £30m for Ade? You're having a laugh. This sounds like a dream come true. I would quickly grab the money without second thoughts. I wonder how Ade would cope with Henry? Arsene please let this dude go for £30m, I'm sure Walcott and Bedtner can step up. Only Wenger the genius finds a striker who scores 1 goal in 11 games and converts him to earn Arsenal £30m. Take the money please

You would have to say that £30million is alot of money for any player but in regards to Ade it is a hell of alot of money. Yes he scored 30 goals last season but that was mainly because RVP was out of the team, when they did play together at the begining of the season RVP was smashing the goals in. 300% profit on a player who has had 1 good season is something I would take and spend on CB and another FW. Midfield can be filled with Rosicky, Fabregas, Diaby and Nasri. Wenger please give Diaby a chance

Please AW do not think get the money and let him leave.we are tired of this type of players who have come from Ghettos to glory.
I think Barca don`t know what to do with 30m.Take the money and show them how to use.Ade is a disgrace not only to Arsenal fan but to his entire country men.I promise you he will not make it with Barca.Look at all the players Wenger had sold for the past 4yrs from Patrick Vieria right down to Henry. There has been a sharp decline in their football. So ADE is not an exception.

Ade should be grateful to arsenal for making him and not threatning he'll leave if not paid 120k per week . arsene should get the 30k and get rid of the fucking asshole .... get a roque santa cruz who have an eye for goal and get a mexes ( central defender )from ROMA and we'll win the champions league

Posted by: OPIRO | July 4, 2008 1:22 PM

yea, id take the money without hesitation and feel happy we got rid of a useless over rated striker who has a shit first touch and needs 5 chances to score one goal.

Posted by: DAngo | July 4, 2008 2:20 PM

Let Ade go! He missed so many chances last season, it was ridiculous. If he'd been on even modest form in the later stages of the season, we'd have cruised the title.

All these mixed messages are shocking and the club should get rid of him immediately!

TAKE IT! Ship that anus off to Barca were he can become a total failure. I'm telling you, he's got 1 season wonder written all over him.

Posted by: Ade_is_a_Cock | July 4, 2008 4:40 PM

take the money!! then what, wait for bentdner to grow up? if we sell we will be back to square ONE, we need team stability to be able to win anything

You know what, all these so called footballers are all selfish bastard. For example, take a look at Ronaldo case, the way the Man U fans are worshipping him, just because of money he said he wanted to leave. Come to Ade's come on Wenger, Grap this Dole and let him vanish, is Ade a good player at all i don't think so, he should be happy that he had an amusing player like Fabrigas that gave him passes over passes, out of all the passes how may goals does he scored 30, shame on him. Henry could have score 70 goals last season. He can't hold ball, he doesn't no how to create chances for other players. Hey, Ade, you are going to Barca to warm a bench, take it from me. you un greatful being.

Any player who starts caring more about the money than the game shouldn't play. I can't imagine that a manager would want a guy with that attitude in his squad. Take the money, buy Villa or Podolski. Or better yet, buy someone cheap with potential that can be fulfilled instantly.

Posted by: Nick | July 5, 2008 10:22 AM

OOPs 30m for a donkey ...the team and wenger gave this selfish so called long poles football player a chance to come into the game...look at all those who left Arsenal...after wenger created fame n brought out the best in them...classic eg would be Manu Petit

I admit £30million for a player after one good season would be hard to turn down, but who would we buy to replace him? The names touted so far (Eto'o, Villa, Podolski etc.) are all players of Eduardo or Van Persie's mould. I can't think of any reasonable targets who could provide us the dimension Ade provides. Before people jump in with jokes about him providing us with missed oppotunities, I'm referring to his ability to hold the ball up and an aerial threat. I see Bendtner as a natural replacement, but I don't think he's ready yet. So who would be a decent like for like replacement?

Take it. One good season and a poor run that cost us dear. We only know he is as good as the service.
