Will Arsenal sign anyone before Euro 2008 kicks off?

The clock is ticking on Arsene Wenger's self-imposed deadline to sign some new players for Arsenal Football Club.

Wenger wanted to have his transfer dealings completed before Euro 2008 begins, but with the first game due to kick off on Saturday, time is fast running out for Le Gaffer to stand by that timetable.

More worryingly, the signing of Samir Nisri, which seemed imminent two weeks ago, now seems to be on hold because of issues with the wages that are being offered by the Gunners. Wenger has tried to explain the problem by stating that the difference in salaries between England and France is not as wide as it used to be, but it still calls into question Arsenal's much talked about pay structure yet again.

The dilemma, of course, is that Nasri has a blinding Euro 2008 and is then poached by another European giant - or worse still, another Premier League club. But that's the risk that Arsenal will continue to face unless they can start to offer world class deals to their players.

Meanwhile, the Alexander Hleb saga rolls on with Barcelona still seen as favourites to sign the want-away midfielder. Perhaps if that deal can be completed this week we'll see Yaya Toure, or maybe even Samuel Eto'o, involved in a swap deal to come to north London. But somehow I doubt it.

But with Wenger's deadlines apparently meaning nothing these days (remember the moving deadline for Mathieu Flamini?!) the question I have for you lot is does it matter that we haven't signed any new talent as yet? Or do you think Arsene needs to get the chequebook out now so that he can plan properly for pre season training? Share your comments here.

Yes, its all true. We will never sign another player again and all of the ones we have now will leave in the summer. This is because we can't afford to pay anyone anything ever because we have absolutely no money at all. Then Arsene will leave, Grimandi will leave and even the new physio who just came in will leave. Then we'll have noone left and just what are we going to do then?!! Won't somebody please think of the children!

Get a grip. It will happen when it happens. You are not helping.

I hope Egil is not serious

arsenal are so financially in the plus at the moment

we dont have the debts of chelsea and the like

these previous years of not throwing around money are paying dividends

anyway, i hope we get nasri before euro, he looks class

and i would love to get yaya toure to fill flaminis gap, considering the bloke said he wants to play with toure one day

The only wanker is you, Baz.

It's clear Egil is not serious, and is completely right. Just be patient. If Arsenal sign somebody, they will sigh somebody when the time is right.

The transfermarket is open for another 3 months. Why is everybody whining for short term signings? Since when did we lose faith in Wenger, and the club?
