Transfer gossip: Media pundits link Arsenal with a host of players

It wouldn't be the January transfer window if Arsenal weren't linked to signing the world and his wife.

Every day the newspapers have Arsene Wenger trailing a number of players, often in competition with the Spuds, thanks to former scout Damien Comolli having defected to Light Weight Lane - the silly boy.

Among the players we're supposedly buying today are Deportivo La Coruna youngster Fabricio Agosto, Russia striker Andrei Arshavin (pictured), Marseille winger Andre Ayew, Levski Sofia's Nikolai Dimitrov and Torpedo Moscow defender Vyacheslav Dmitriev, whom reports say Arsenal have already agreed a deal for.

Far be it for me to repeat Le Gaffer's vow that he's not looking to sign anyone, so here's a little lowdown on the aforementioned players...

Deportivo La Coruna's Fabricio is a highly rated goalkeeper who has told the Spanish media that he would be relish a move to Arsenal.

The 20-year-old Spanish stopper has been linked with the club as a replacement for Jens Lehmann and at the weekend he told reporters, "It is pleasing to hear that news, but have not had any contact from Arsenal. Deportivo say that nobody has contacted them to speak with me, but I am prepared for anything."

He added, "My vision is to play in Primera Division with Deportivo but if a fantastic opportunity arises, it is only natural to consider it. England, today, is a big market for young Spanish players."

Russian striker Andrei Arshavin could soon be in Arse Heaven, according to a number of papers today, although only if the Gunners can beat Tottenham Hopeless in a bidding war.

Arsenal, the Spuds and Marseille have been mentioned as potential suitors for Arshavin after his agent claimed he is attracting interest from a number of western European clubs.

The 26-year-old is one of his country's brightest talents and is keen to leave reigning Russian champions Zenit St Petersburg for a new challenge. His agent believes a deal will be signed today, but Zenit say no approach has been made for the player.

Next in line is Marseille winger Andre Ayew, who is currently at the African Nations Cup with Ghana.

The son of ex-Marseille hero Abedi Pele, Ayew is a regular first team player, despite being just 18, prompting the newspapers to speculate that Marseille would only part with the talented teenager for a fee in the region of £5million.

A source, supposedly close to Ayew, told reporters, "Arsenal have sent scouts to watch him almost every week."

One rumour with at least a bit of substance to it is that of Nikolai Dimitrov, who recently had a trail at Arsenal. The 20-year-old apparently impressed Wenger during his week at London Colney, but Le Gaffer is yet to make a decision on the Bulgarian Under-21 winger.

However, with high spending Chelsea coach Avram Grant apparently interested in the youngster, Arsene may have to be quick if he doesn't want to lose him.

And finally we come to Torpedo Moscow defender Vyacheslav Dmitriev. The 17-year-old has been given the nickname The Elephant, apparently because he looks slow but is deceptively quick - go figure, it's Russian irony or something like that. Anyway, according to which newspaper you read, we're either monitoring his progress or we've already bought him and he'll make the move to London at the end of the season.

The bottom line as always is that you should take all of the above with the appropriate pinch of salt. The only time I ever believe Arsenal transfer news is when Arsene Wenger holds a press conference to announce a new signing.

ARSENE WENGER WAKE UP!!!

if any more injuries to rosicky/hleb/adebayor/
what are we going to do????

I think eboue is low quality dump him out of the january transfer window (but who wants him anyway so keep him on bench) with arshavin and ayew - both why not? there is nothing wrong with a little competition also between older and younger gunners and players exchanging positions.

IF ARSENE DOESNT SPEND... I can see the angry supporter's banners already.
