Jose Mourinho shows signs of Fergie-style dementia

Out of sight but not out of mind, Jose Mourinho, still licking his wounds and counting his wonga after being ruthlessly sacked for the insomnia-curing style of football played by Chelski under his command, has had the audacity to compare his spending while Blues’ boss to that of our very own master economist, Arsene Wenger.

Here’s what he had to say on “Do people really think only Chelsea have spent a lot of money?

“Arsenal also spent a lot and when they needed to build a new team brought in players like Thierry Henry, Marc Overmars, Dennis Bergkamp, Patrick Vieira, Emmanuel Petit and many others.

“Did they all come for nothing? Of course not. With those players Wenger won championships, he won time and, because he is a manager with admirable ability, he won people's respect.

“But in building success he started in the same place as Chelsea. It was only later Wenger cemented his policy of relying on developing young players.”

Point one: Dennis Bergkamp was inherited by Le Boss after the Dutchman arrived in England in 1995 – before Wenger took over at Arsenal and while Mourinho was still translating thankyou into gracias.

Point two: Thierry Henry cost a reported £10.5m. But then consider the transfer, and a new state-of-the-art training complex, were funded by the £23.5m sale of Nicolas Anelka to Real Madrid. The moody Frenchman had cost us a reported £250k in compensation to Paris St Germain.

Two years of development, a Double, another close Premier League title race which saw us fall short only on the final day of the season and an FA Cup semi final replay defeat to the eventual treble winners Man U, deprived Le Boss of successive doubles in his first two years. Impressive, wouldn’t you say Jose?

Point three: Wenger has been nurturing young talent since day one at Arsenal, having sanctioned the signing of a widely unknown 20-year-old Patrick Vieira from AC Milan a few months prior to his own arrival.

His overall transfer expenditure v transfer income leaves him close to zero deficit.

Point four: Mourinho swapped his best player for Cashley Hole and 5m big ones. Deal of the century that, on Chelsea’s part.

He spent more money than any other manager in football history and achieved success having inherited a squad that had finshed second in the Premier League and reached the semi finals of the Champions League the previous year.

Wenger meanwhile, took over from Bruce Rioch with Arsenal boasting only an aging but magnificent defence and and two great strikers but next to no midfield.

Mourinho’s football was only tolerated because, admittedly, it brought instant success to a team and club starved of any for so long. Then they grew bored and handed him his p45.

So por favor Jose, don’t ever convince yourself you’re in the same class or of remotely the same calibre as the man who has dragged English football, kicking and screaming into the modern game.

You’re not special. You never were. Being redundant should have hammered that home.

...and you thought sacking him would make him shut up!!!
I can already see that should he ever be appointed England manager, he will personally lead a witch-hunt against Wenger when for all the faults of England team... what an utter muppet!

Well put.

I can't believe he managed to say he was half as good as Wenger without laughing...
