Twenty Arsenal players catch flights for international duty

No fewer than 20 Arsenal players will be looking out their passports today as they jet off on international duty with their respective national squads - and that doesn’t include those at under-21 and youth levels.

Unsurprisingly the biggest contingent is heading to Paris for France’s clash in the Faroe Islands on 13th October, followed by the game in Paris aganist Lithuania on 17th October. No fewer than five Gunners stars have been called up for the French squad - William Gallas, Bacary Sagna, Mathieu Flamini, Abou Diaby and Lassana Diarra.

Former French colony Ivory Coast has called upon Kolo Toure and Emmanuel Eboue for their clash with Austria on the 17th October in Innsbruck.

Eduardo has been called up for international duty with Croatia who host Israel on 13th October.

Alex Hleb has been chosen to represent Belarus for their European Championship qualifier against Luxembourg on 13th October.

Tomas Rosicky has been selected in the Czech Republic squad to play in Germany on 17th October, where he will likely face team mate Jens Lehmann, who is also in his country’s squad for the game against Ireland in Dublin on 13th October.

Togo striker Emmanuel Adebayor has agreed to play for his country again as they endeavour to overcome Mali on 12th October to secure qualification for next year’s African Nations Cup.

Brazilian captain Gilberto is in his country’s squad that travels to Columbia for their clash on 14th October, before playing host to Ecuador three days later.

Young striker Nicklas Bendtner has been provisionally selected for the Danish squad for their home game against Spain on 13th October, before hosting Latvia four days later.

Facing Bendtner in the Spanish squad will be Cesc Fabregas. Spain also take on neighbouring Scandinavian nation Finland in a friendly on 17th October.

Robin van Persie is likely to line up for Holland when they travel to Romania on 13th October. The Dutch then take on Slovenia four days later.

Lukasz Fabianski is one of three UK-based goalkeepers that are in the squad for Poland’s Euro 2008 qualifier against Kazakhstan and a friendly with Hungary.

Philippe Senderos and on-loan defensive partner Johann Djourou are among the Swiss squad that plays friendlies against Austria on 13th October and the United States four days later.

Finally, teenager Carlos Vela, currently on loan at Osasuna in Spain, is in the Mexican squad for friendlies against Nigeria in Juarez on 14th October and Guatemala in Los Angeles, California on 17th October.

Lets hope they can all report back for club duty fit and healthy.

This just highlights that our multi national team is of an outstanding quality, an astonishing 20 players are selected for international duty which verifies Wengers notion that he doesn't need to promote medioctiy and select English players who aren't good enough he doesn't care where the players are from as long they are of the right quality they will be given the chance at Arsenal! Given time Walcott will be phenomenal because he's good enough and not just because he has the fortune of a British Passport....!
The Spanish clearly know what they are doing picking Cesc & leaving out Almunia which leaves me baffled as to why Almunia is in the Arsenal squad!! He'll never make it at Arsenal he's not good enough even in a Million Sundays he's just not good enough for Arsenal and yet another omission from the Spanish squad compounds this!I genuinely get that sinking feeling everytime I witness him line up for Arsenal even when he's a sub.. Please Please Please Give Fabianski a chance if Poland can Arsenal can!

Karlos: To be fair to Almunia, Spain have a fair share of talented goalies - Casillas, Reina, Valdes etc. etc. and Valdes hasnt even featured for Spain despite being Barcelona 1, same with Reina

Casillas, Reina, Valdes class goalkeepers I'd be embarrassed to mention Almunia in the same breat has them let alone let him anywhere near the Spanish squad! Anyone of those talented keepers could make a good go of it at Arsenal but Almunia... no chance!
