Is Nacer Barazite good enough to make it into the Arsenal first team?

The internationals give us time to focus on some of the younger players on the verge of breaking through into the first team fringes.

One such player is Dutch midfielder Nacer Barazite, who every time I’ve seen him looks like he’s definitely got what it takes to step up a level to Premier League football.

So far this season, Barazite has featured in 10 games - five for the reserves and five for the youth team - and has scored seven goals, all but one of which were at the junior level.

His last goals came in the 3-1 victory away to Fulham in the Under-18 Academy league, where he took home the match ball after scoring a hat-trick.

The former NEC Nijmegen youngster is a tall and pacy player and has drawn favourable comparisons with Robert Pires, although Nacer models himself on countryman Robin van Persie...

Arsene Wenger obviously sees potential in Barazite, as the 17-year-old won himself a professional contract with the club at the start of this season and if he can maintain his current form, we should expect Nacer to figure in the Carling Cup squad that faces Sheffield United in two weeks time.

He made his first team debut in the friendly against Barnet back in July and scored Arsenal’s second in the 2-0 win. Nacer has worked hard to improve his strength over the summer and that effort has paid dividends as his tally of five goals in 26 appearances last season for the Under-18s, has already been surpassed with six goals in just five appearances this season.

And his progression is being charted by his country as well, with Nacer being one of Holland’s best players during the UEFA Under-17 Championships earlier this year.

The next youth game is scheduled to take place this weekend when Arsenal host Ipswich and you can be sure that Arsene Wenger will take a keen interest in the match coverage, as he begins to put together his Carling Cup plans for the trip north the following week.

Let’s hope it’s not too long before we all get to see Barazite breaking through to the full first team squad.

What do you make of Nacer Barazite? Do you believe he's got what it takes to become a regular Arsenal midfielder? Or do you thinkthe competition for places in the middle of the park will ultimately mean he has to move to another club? Share your opinions here

This guy has got some amazing skills! Just watch....Nacer will definately make it give him time. He is definately one of the best prospects we have in the current Arsenal youth squad. And PLUS he is very level-headed and has the right opposed to some of the other young footballers out there.
