Has Arsene Wenger found another wonderkid in Cedric Evina?

With nothing much to report about the club because of the internationals this week, I’ve done a little bit of digging about one of our youth players who various scouts rate as one of the hottest prospects in Europe. His name is Cedric Evina, he’s only 15 and by all accounts he’s a fantastic left winger.

A quick search on the interweb threw up some good information which points to the lad being an all round sportsman. Evina still holds the club records for the 75 metres sprint, 100 metres sprint, high jump and long jump for the under-11s at Barnet and District Athletic Club. Presumably he packed in the athletics when he entered Arsenal’s footballing academy though, as his name doesn’t figure in Barnet and District’s online records after 2001.

A self-confessed Arsenal supporter, Cedric was born in France, but came to England when he was just 10. His roots also see him following Paris Saint-Germain and he is reportedly good friends with fellow PSG fan and team mate Armand Traore.

The teenager missed much of last season after picking up an ankle injury, but Arsene Wenger obviously thinks highly of his young countryman as Evina became the envy of his academy colleagues when he was chosen to take part in at least one first team training session last season...

He managed to break into the club’s Under-18 team last season and banged in the winning goal in the 2-1 victory over Coventry in the final match of the campaign.

This year, Evina will be hoping to step up another grade to the reserves team and maybe even feature in one of Wenger’s Carling Cup if he can impress.

So far this season, Evina has featured in three Under-18 clashes and has finished on the winning side each time with victories over Aston Villa (4-1), Millwall (5-0) and Watford, against whom he scored the final goal in a 7-1 romp.

There’s not much else that’s public knowledge about Cedric, but from the excitement his name seems to elicit among talent spotters, it would appear that Le Gaffer may have discovered yet another prodigy. We’ll keep our eyes peeled and our ears to the ground for more news about Cedric Evina throughout the season and bring it to you here on Arsenal Pies.
