Does Gallas fancy a bit of the Old Lady?

No, our Willy hasn’t taken a sudden liking to grandmas. But he has been linked to the Old Lady of Italian football: Juventus.

The former Chelsea star worked with Juve manager Claudio Ranieri when the duo resided at Stamford Bridge and now reports in the Italian press say the Tinkerman may be reunited with his Willy in Turin.

I remember the whole Gallas transfer saga unravelling at Stamford Bridge after the World Cup in 2006 and recall reading of Gallas' desire to test himself in another country, preferably Italy or Spain.

At the time, AC Milan were rumoured to be his likely destination. As we all now know, his bitter departure from the Bridge didn’t see him heading for the departure lounge at Heathrow, rather the captain’s armband at Emirates.

But having sealed a move across London, Gallas was still publicly harbouring ambitions to play on the continent. Only the other day, he was warning Arsenal HAVE to win something this term.

That suggests he’ll move on if we fail to land a major trophy come May 2008. Which, despite how it may appear on the surface of things, is quite understandable.

Gallas is 30 and perhaps has one more major transfer left in him. If he feels the need for a fresh challenge, why stop him? Especially with Johan Djourou and Philippe Senderos chomping at the bit to establish themselves as Kolo Toure’s long-term partner.

But what are YOUR thoughts on this piece of transfer tittle-tattle? Is it just that – unsubstantiated gossip? Or could there be an element of truth to the tale? Send us your thoughts via the comments section below…

It will be ashame if Gallas leaves next year after taking the Captain's armband this year. It would be good to have a few years of consistency in the position. Besides we are going to win silverware this year anyway!!!

Gallas is a good defender and footballer, but Arsenal fans have not seen the best of him. I think a player with his pride will want to prove himself to Gunners fans before leaving for Italy - because there's no doubt that he wants to go and play there one day. I think Patrick Vieira has probably had a word with him because he seems to be loving it in Italy - slower pace of the game, less chance of being shown up by 20-year-old upstarts like Fabregas!
