Barcelona rubbish Cesc Fabregas transfer talk

It looks as if Cesc Fabregas won’t be moving back to Barcelona - not at any time in the near future at least.

Fab 4’s agent, Joseba Diaz, was quoted as saying the player would welcome a bid from his boyhood club, but Barcelona themselves have played down any interest by indicating the wound caused by Cesc’s departure is deeper than anyone thought.

The club's technical director, Txiki Begiristain, says they are not interested in their former youth player because paying millions of Euros to secure his services would not be a good move.

In a statement on the Barcelona website, Begiristain said, "Fabregas was once here with us, but he has left. He was nurtured here and so if he's to return, it will be a difficult thing for us in the sense that we will have to pay big money for him.

"It wouldn't be nice paying a very huge amount of money for a player we nurtured and developed. Also, Fabregas has not made any move toward coming back to Barca.”

All of which plays nicely into the hands of Real Madrid. However, Cesc would vilify himself even further with the Nou Camp faithful if he made a move to the Spanish capital, so the good news for us Gooners is that he will probably remain at Arsenal until at least Arsene Wenger decides to call it a day.

Wenger had the vision to sign Fabregas to an eight-year contract last year - believed to be the longest contract given to any player in the Premier League - so there’s always the possibility that Cesc could move back to Barca on a free Bosman transfer. But he can’t do that until he’s 27, so we should hopefully see him providing the inspirational touch at Arsenal for many years to come.
