Arsene Wenger names Champions League squad

Alexander Hleb’s injury is nowhere near as bad as first feared, with Arsene Wenger today revealing that the Belarus skipper is part of the Arsenal squad on its way to Romania for tomorrow’s clash Champions League clash.

Hleb is named as part of 19 man squad who travelled today to Bucharest for the game against national champions Steaua. However, Le Gaffer has not as yet chosen his starting line-up as he waits for late fitness tests on another trio of players, in addition to Hleb.

Emmanuel Adebayor, Mathieu Flamini and Abou Diaby are the other major doubts.

"Alex Hleb will travel," said Wenger, checking his pockets for passport, money and tickets before heading to the airport today. "We tested him for a check on his bone and a decision will be made tomorrow over whether he will play or not.”

Adebayor’s thigh injury could mean Nicklas Bendner partners RvP up front.

Wenger continued, "Emmanuel Adebayor will travel but we will make a decision on him as well. It looks a little less good than it did. Mathieu Flamini has a knock on his groin. Abou Diaby has a knock on his ankle so we need to check on them.”

Among the walking wounded who are not travelling are William Gallas, Eduardo, Alex Song, Jens Lehmann and Tomas Rosicky.

The full squad that travelled are: Manuel Almunia, Lukasz Fabianski, Emmanuel Adebayor, Robin van Persie, Nicklas Bendtner, Alexander Hleb, Theo Walcott, Abou Diaby, Denilson, Lassana Diarra, Emmanuel Eboue, Cesc Fabregas, Mathieu Flamini, Gilberto, Philippe Senderos, Justin Hoyte, Bacary Sagna, Kolo Toure and Gael Clichy.

From that, my team would be:
Almunia
Sagna, Toure, Senderos, Clichy
Eboue, Diarra, Fabregas, Flamini
Bendtner, van Persie

i like your squad, but i'm not sure flamini is well suited to the left wing. since he's carrying a knock, i'll take theo on the left wing instead.

also, i'm worried that gilberto's going to get itchy sitting on the bench for too long. this would be an ideal opportunity to get him some playing time behind fab.

decent squad but i'm preferring to be an optimist about the injury situation and i agree with the above comment about walcott in preference to Flamini which is no slight of the player as i think he's been a pretty consistent performer this season i just fancy a bit more pace out wide and feel that Hleb and Theo could switch wings for a bit of a switch up now and again.

Almunia
Sagna, Toure, Senderos, Clichy
Hleb [if fit], Diarra, Fabregas, Walcott
Adebayor [if fit], van Persie

Away in European comp?

I'd try and get Gilberto in there somewhere, either as a CM or CB. He'll be a good organizing and settling force.

And would rather see Hleb sit if not entirely fit. Start Eboue.

I'm stunned that anyone would choose Walcott over Flamini. I know the potential is there, but I cannot see what Walcott has done at all this season

Almunia
Sagna Toure Senderos Clichy
Hleb Gilberto Fabregas Flamini
Bendtner Rvp

(I think Diarra can play there?)

But defo let Walcott have a go later in the game.
