Arsenal's "real test" begins this weekend

Emmanuel Adebayor today dismissed Sunday’s game away to Liverpool as the first huge test of Arsenal’s title credentials.

While pundits see the Gunners next two games, against Liverpool and Manchester United, as the acid test for Arsenal’s Premier League campaign, I think the real test is the our next 10 games - only two of which are at Emirates Stadium.

Starting on Sunday, those 10 games take place over just five weeks, with Arsene Wenger’s team one the road for most of that period.

The run is: Liverpool away (28th October); Sheffield away (31st October); Man Utd home (3rd November); Slavia Prague away (7th November); Reading away (12th November); Wigan home (24th November); Sevilla away (27th November); Aston Villa away (1st December); Newcastle away (5th December); and Middlesborough away (9th December).

That’s more away games in the next five weeks than we’ve faced in the first 10 weeks of this campaign. So far this season, Arsenal have played 10 home games and just five away games in all competitions. And while the team are playing like champions elect, the next few games and how the young Guns react to playing regularly in front of hostile fans, will give a better indication of how strong our challenge might be by the end of the season...

However, Ade-cool argues that Arsenal have already overcome significant hurdles this season to cement the club’s position at the top of both the Premier League and our Champions League group.

“Every time we play people are saying ‘it’s a test game, it’s a test game’. Then when we win they say ‘another test will be coming’. So the most important thing is to pass this test,” says Adebayor. “We are doing good at the moment and we play Liverpool on Sunday, one of the biggest teams in Europe, so hopefully we will win.”

I have more belief in Arsenal getting all three points at Anfield this Sunday than I’ve ever had before when they’ve travelled to Merseyside. Liverpool have only won one game at home this season, but they are the only team, apart from the Gunners, to remain unbeaten so far.

They’ve only won one game in their last four in all competitions, but Fernando Torres should be fit in time for Sunday’s game, which means our back four will have to be on their toes.

But with Le Gaffer pulling the strings and players like Alexander Hleb, Cesc Fabregas, Gael Clichy, Theo Walcott, Bacary Sagna, Kolo Toure and Mathieu Flamini all in the best form of their careers, I believe the Gunners will travel back down to London on Sunday with another three points in the bag.
