Arsenal's internationalists enjoy mixed fortunes, but no injuries

With 20 Arsenal first squad players out on international duty, the good news so far is that everyone seems to have emerged unscathed from playing for their countries.

Eduardo da Silva (pictured) was on target yet again to help Croatia beat Israel 1-0, his 13th goal in 18 games for his adopted country.

Bacary Sagna started the game for France against the Faroe Islands, in which Thierry Henry equalled Michel Platini’s scoring record for Les Bleus. Lassana Diarra replaced Claude Makelele later on in the game, which France won 6-0. William Gallas was an unused substitute, while Mathieu Flamini and Abou Diaby were also in the French squad.

Alexander Helb could do little to prevent Belarus losing to Luxembourg in injury time. The 95th minute winner, headed home by Fons Leweck, marked the first time the tiny nation has won a game in 12 years. From an Arsenal point of view, however, it means that Helb will enjoy a rest when the European Championships take place next year.

Jens Lehmann performed heroics in goal to keep a clean sheet for Germany in their game against Ireland in Dublin. The big stopper’s form must have Arsene Wenger thinking of recalling him to first team action.

Cesc Fabregas started for Spain, who won 3-1 away in Denmark. Nicklas Bendtner came on early in the second half to replace Leon Andreasen up front for the home team, while Fabregas went off to make way for Luis Garcia Fernandez with 12 minutes to play.

Marco van Basten was forced to travel Romania without the suspended Robin van Persie and the in-form Arsenal striker was sorely missed, as the home team recorded a surprising 1-0 win over Holland.

Switzerland defeated joint Euro 2008 hosts Austria 3-1 in a friendly, with both Johan Djourou and Philippe Senderos lining up in defence for the home team.
