Arsenal Pies

What the papers say

Jose Mourinho's departure from Chelsea has killed more trees that England's 1987 hurricane with the millions of column inches the story has taken up. That "news" coverage continues today, but I've found a few Arsenal stories too.

Here’s what some of the main dailies are reporting about the Gunners:

The Sun - Blues can thrive without Jose
Arsene Wenger took one last swipe at Jose Mourinho as he predicted that Chelsea will get by without his bitter rival.

The Times - Alisher Usmanov sets target for stake in Arsenal
Russian billionaire Alisher Usmanov intends to buy a “blocking stake” in the Barclays Premier League leaders.

The Mirror - Ego on our face
Arsene Wenger last night warned his young Gunners he will not allow big egos in the dressing room and insisted they are title contenders.

The Independent - Wenger remains relaxed over Arsenal future
In view of events across the capital, the news that a Russian billionaire had increased his shareholding in Arsenal, and was aiming to build a "blocking share", might be imagined to create a feeling of unease for Arsene Wenger.

The Telegraph - Intrigue fails to worry Arsene Wenger
As Jose Mourinho left Chelsea, Russian businessman Alisher Usmanov claimed yesterday he was ready to increase his interest in Arsenal to obtain a "blocking stake" of just over 25 per cent before then waiting for the share price to "go up in value".

The Guardian - Usmanov targets crucial 25% stake in Arsenal
The Uzbek oligarch Alisher Usmanov said yesterday that he wanted a "blocking stake" in Arsenal. He increased his holding to 21% in the Premier League leaders on Monday and hopes new purchases will soon take him to 25%.

The Daily Mail - No place in Wenger's world for class one egos
Arsene Wenger has warned his young squad there is no room for egos at Arsenal, insisting such behaviour can wreck their title dreams.
