So that’s what they were talking about…

The Sunday Mirror yesterday exclusively revealed “talks have already taken place with Arsenal” to thrash out a deal which would see the former England captain train with the Gunners once the MLS season comes to a close.

Beckham, they suggest, would train with the Arsenal squad at our state-of-the-art training complex at London Colney because, amongst other things, its only a stone’s throw away from his Hertfordshire home.

According to the terms of his deal with the MLS, the former Real Madrid galactico would not be allowed to join any club on loan, but this deal may suit both parties, with Beckham having top-class training at Arsenal while offering his wealth of experience to the Gunners’ fledgling squad.

Perhaps working with the wide players on their crossing and free-kick taking. After all, for all his detractors, one thing any critic of Beckham’s cannot dispute, is his status as one of the world’s best set piece specialists.

And from a very cynical point of view, you can be sure if it did indeed materialise that Beckham, for however short a stint, found himself wearing the red and white of Arsenal, the swelling of the club’s coffers from shirt sales alone would make the move very, very appealing.

However, the Sunday Mirror also suggest there is one major stumbling block to any such move – Beckham’s commercial commitments. According to them, LA Galaxy’s sponsors Adidas, who “subsidise his reported £127m earnings” want the player to embark on promotional drives during the MLS close season.

But what do you make of this news? Would Arsenal benefit from having Beckham train at Arsenal. Despite the denials, could such a move lead to a Henrik Larsson-style cameo spell? Let us know your thoughts….
