Lehmann - It'll take Superman to oust me as numero uno

Defiant Jens Lehmann has illustrated his indestructible self belief by suggesting he will soon be back between the sticks for Arsenal.

The German number one came under fire for two mistakes in his opening two Premier League games of the season for the Gunners, before injury put a temporary halt to his campaign.

A slip in the first minute of the opening day victory over Fulham at Emirates Stadium was compounded by his concession of a long-range David Dunn effort at Blackburn Rovers, leading journos, fans and pundits alike in insisting his Arsenal career was all but over.

They obviously forgot about the time the 37-year-old was given a breather by Le Boss a couple of seasons back. He returned better than ever to help Arsenal to their first-ever Champions League Final, producing a miraculous save to deny Real Madrid's Raul at Highbury and denying Juan Roman Riquelme from the spot in the Champions League semi final second-leg in Spain.

Here's what Super Jens is quoted as saying in The Times:

"I feel I am the No 1 at Arsenal and Germany, although I know I have to train hard every day to justify this.

“I have not played recently because I could not play. If I am injured, then obviously another man plays. If he is a superman who stops everything, then I may not play again, but from experience I know I have played constantly and I am not worried that I will not play again when I am fit.”

But what are your thoughts? Is the former AC Milan stopper still our number one in yours eyes? Let us know...

Good to see that his confidence hasn't been shattered. Hopefully he does take 1st position back, since to do better than Almunia right now (who is doing quite well) would really be a boon to us!

I hope he comes back well, personally, and it is nice to see that he isn't second-guessing. There were errors in Fulham and Blackburn, but there was also the first Sparta game where he was responsible for our second goal...

I really think this is the toughest decision Wenger will have to make all season. I still have confidence in Jens but I feel like Almunia has now earned the right to be number one. For me it is truly 50 / 50. I think I would probably put Jens back out there but any slip up and I would make Almunia the permanent number one.
