Gilberto – Who cares if Jol gets the boot? Not me

Gilberto has declared his lack of interest in the managerial shenanigans presently enveloping Spurs by stating: “That’s Totenham’s problem”.

Recent press speculation has Tottenham manager Martin Jol hanging on to his job by the skin of his teeth following a disappointing start to the campaign.

The burly Dutchman is not the most welcome of figures at Arseanl of course, following allegations of unsporting behaviour when the two teams met at Highbury the season before last.

With two Arsenal players lying injured on the floor and the rest of the Gunners’ side protesting the ball be knocked into touch, Jol could be seen furiously gesticulating at his players to make the most of Arsenal misfortune and continue playing.

Robbie Keane obliged to tap home at the far post. After the game, Jol denied urging his players to continue but television replays and on-pitch microphones seemed to contradict Jol’s insistence of innocence.

So to hear Gilberto say the following is easy to understand:

“This is a match any Gunner wants to win,” he is quoted as saying in The News of the World.

“I am not worried by Jol’s situation. That’s Tottenham’s problem and it’s logical that we want to make Tottenham suffer more.

“If Jol is sacked because of an Arsenal win it’s not a problem to me. I can sleep calmly. My pre-occupation is with us.”

The Brazilian international then went on to offer his analysis of Spurs’ season so far.

“I have watched Tottenham this season and they are not playing at the same level as in the past.

“I notice errors in defence, less control in midfield and little success in attack.

“And it is normal the club will be surrounded by tension because Spurs have only won one of their five matches.”

But do you share Gilb’s stance? Should we be revelling in Jol’s troubles? Does he deserve it? Let us know your thoughts on the matter…
