Gallas sits out France training at Clairfontaine

Football 365 are reporting Arsenal skipper William Gallas sat out training today as France prepare to take on Italy in their Euro 2008 Qualifier on Saturday.

Gallas, 30, has been absent from Arsenal duty since injuring his groin in the first half of the Gunners’ 1-1 draw with Blackburn Rovers at Ewood Park last month and had been said to be nearing full fitness in anticipation of a return in next week’s north London derby with Spurs.

Now it appears the Frenchman has not trained fully all week in the build-up to the weekend’s mouth-watering rematch of the 2006 World Cup Final.

France will be praying the defender pulls through as he also provides a threat going forward for Les Bleus. Indeed, I seem to recall it was he whose marauding left-wing run and cross led to a goal for Sidney Govou in the reverse fixture earlier in the qualifying campaign.

What Arsene Wenger will make of this latest news will be interesting. For France manager Raymond Domenech has ignored pleas from both player and club in naming him in the squad for the match at the San Siro.

Let us all say a prayer our Willie returns safe and sound to nullify the threat posed by one-man team, BerbaTottenham next weekend.

But what do you make of the news? Have France damaged Arsenal’s Premier League ambitions by rushing the player back too soon? Let us know YOUR views...
