What the papers say

There was apparently some kind of Champions League raffle or something in Monaco yesterday, but ignore all that - cos the newspapers have. Nope, today's sports writers are all talking about English soccerball power player David Dein and his plans to take over the world.

Here’s what the main dailies are saying:

The Sun - COMRADE WENGER
Arsene Wenger will join forces with the Russian revolution as the battle of Gunnerski began yesterday.

The Times - DEIN RAISES THE STAKES IN POWER BID
The former Arsenal vice-chairman has sold his shares in a move that could pave the way for a hostile takeover of the club

The Mirror - DEIN EYES RETURN
David Dein last night began a dramatic attempt to buy his way back into Arsenal four months after being ruthlessly ousted as vice-chairman in a bitter boardroom split.

The Independent - DEIN WILL LEAD RUSSIAN BID FOR ARSENAL AFTER SELLING STAKE
The former Arsenal vice-chairman David Dein yesterday made a dramatic return to English football at the head of a Russian consortium with their sights set on taking over his former club

The Telegraph - DAVID DEIN CLIMBS ABOARD A TROJAN HORSE
Sparta Prague one day, Trojan horses the next: Arsenal live through interesting times. Arsenal's passage into the Champions League group stage was understandably celebrated on Wednesday, although their fans should be wary about putting up too much bunting over yesterday's news that David Dein has introduced strangers with unknown motives into the heart of Ashburton Grove.

The Guardian - ARSENAL GET AN OLIGARCH AS DEIN SELLS HIS STAKE
· Takeover talk resumes as Usmanov pays £75m
· Board will fear any link-up with American Kroenke

The Daily Mail - ARSENAL AT WAR AS EX-CHIEF DEIN SET TO LAUNCH TAKEOVER BID
David Dein, Arsenal’s former vice-chairman who was removed from the board five months ago, yesterday announced plans for a dramatic comeback that could lead to him taking over the club...

The Daily Express - DEIN HEADS COMPANY EYEING ARSENAL
Former Arsenal vice chairman David Dein has re-emerged as a central figure in the club's future by becoming chairman of a company that has pledged to buy shares in the club.
