Fabregas says Arsenal are hungry for silverware

Super Cesc Fabregas last night re-affirmed Le Boss’ eve-of-the-season declaration that his Arsenal side would at the very least, ‘compete’ for the Premier League this term.

Last season’s slow start ended the Gunners’ hopes of a fourth title win under Arsene Wenger’s astute tutelage before it had really taken off.

The obvious upheaval to his plans caused by the last minute departures of Ashley Cole and, more importantly, Jose Antonio Reyes surely played a key role in our stuttering start. Not so this year.

Sure, we may sign one or two new players before the transfer window slams shut at the end of the month. But the difference this time around is that we seem to have a settled line-up, which looks defensively capable again at last, and vitally (touch wood) we have no long-term injury worries.

The result? A bullish belief among the squad and coaching staff that with a little luck, 2007/08 could be our year.

“We are young but we are showing everyone we have the desire,” Fabregas told Setanta Sports following Arsenal’s Champions League triumph in Prague last night

A cautious Fabregas went on to highlight the importance of reaching the Champions League group stages despite Arsenal’s recent insistence that they have no list of priorities as far as the four major competitions go this year.

“We want to win things and once again I repeat this was a really important game for us because it shows that if we win the game at Emirates Stadium, we will be in the Champions League which is the most important competition in terms of [the] club.

“Two goals to nil away is really important but you know this is football and everything can change so we have to be aware of everything and hopefully we’ll go through but we have to work hard.”

But do you agree with Cesc? Can we win the Premier League and Champions League this year. Can we claim back our FA Cup? Will Fran Merida and co take us to another Carling Cup Final?

Let us know what YOU think…
