Eight days to go: Signing suggestion number three

With just eight days remaining until the end of the current transfer window, time is of the essence as far as new Arsenal recruits are concerned.

This time last year, we were all waiting for a resolution to the ‘Colegate’ affair and I for one was mightily pleased to see us nab Billie Gallas in return at the very last minute.

As much as I hate to admit it, I have several Chelsea friends and the general consensus among them was that we were signing their best performer from the 2005/06 campaign.

Of course, we also signed Denilson that day and took the not-so-beastly Julio Baptista on loan from Real Madrid, in exchange for Jose Antonio Reyes.

This time around, it seems – and I hope – there will be no further player departures at the last minute. The only flights involving Emirates, if indeed there are to be any, will be inbound.

On Tuesday, with just ten shopping days remaining, I suggested we sign Robinho from Real. It now seems Chelsea’s Arjen Robben is Bernabeu-bound after all, so my glimmer of hope remains.

Then yesterday, I put forward the name of Sevilla’s left-sided star Antonio Puerta – a player I feel would bring balance and options to our squad.

Today, I have a third suggestion:

He plays for Flamengo in Brazil.

He is a right-footed attacking midfielder, who prefers to operate from a left-sided midfield position.

He is 19 years old at the last count.

Have I mentioned he is Brazilian.

He has been favourably compared to both Kaka and Rivaldo.

And his name is...

………Renato Augusto.

Unfortunately, I can’t find a picture of him and I must admit to having only seen a few short clips of Renato in action but was left very impressed. If I could describe his style of play, it would be kind-of-like a right-footed Rivaldo.

And no, its not just because this guy said so. We just happen to agree that Renato bares a striking resemblance in style to the former Barcelona superstar.

In fact, the best way I could describe him is:

He distributes the ball like Rivaldo but goes past players with the grace and apparent ease of Kaka.

So go on. ‘YouTube’ him, have a ponder and let us know what you make of him…
