Kerrea Gilbert joins Southend United on loan

Arsenal youngster Kerrea Gilbert embarks on yet another loan stint, this time to league one outfit Southend United for six months. Remember Gilbert spent the entire last season on loan at Championship club Cardiff City, making 26 first team appearences.

With the signing of Bacary Sagna and Hoyte and Eboue next in the pecking order at right back, Gilbert will find it hard to break into the first team full back role. It's a shame to see another English youngster struggle to make strides in the Arsenal first team, especially when he shone in the Carling Cup two seasons ago. Still, at least he's getting competitive experience instead of cruising in the reserves.

Rumours of Diarra transfer to Gunners surely wide of the mark?

The story that Arsenal were fishing around Chelsea's Lassana Diarra first popped up at The Daily Mail a few days back but its re-surfaced again today on Sky Sports News perhaps giving the rumours more credence. However it seems strange that Wenger would be in the market for another centre-midfielder when he has number of capable players in that position already. Fab, Gilberto, Denilson, Diaby, Flamini and Song can all play in Diarra's favoured position.

It seems that Diarra's contract runs out next year and he has refused to sign another one because of lack of first team opportunities. I have to admit that whenever I've seen Diarra play for Chelsea (and he's filled in at right back on occassion) he's impressed me with this tough tackling and patrolling the back four. He's seen at Chelsea as a replacement for Claude Makelele and he's the dead spit of the French veteran in terms of stocky stature and mannerisms, breaking up the play in front of the defence and starting attacks with prompt passing.

Fabregas to join Real Madrid in 2008?

Real Madrid president Ramon Calderon says there's a chance Spanish wonderkid Cesc Fabregas, Chelsea's Arjen Robben and AC Milan playmaker Kaka "will all be here (at the Bernabeu) by the end of my third year in office".

His comments come just days after Fabregas pledged his future to the Gunners, and shouldn't come as any surprise to Arsenal supporters, who are becoming used to Real Madrid's dirty tricks in the transfer market.

Real have a history of using the media to try and lure players to join them. Remember the summer of 2001 when they first tried to sign Patrick Vieira? They had representatives speak in glowing terms about our ex-captain in an attempt to unsettle him - a campaign which lasted right up until the Frenchman left Arsenal in 2005.
